Join us in our mission to raise £150,000 to restore the magnificent organ that has been the heart of our college's liturgical life since 1838. This historic instrument has enriched countless ceremonies and events, and with your help, it can continue to inspire future generations.
As part of St Mary’s College Oscott’s Organ appeal, we’re inviting you to sponsor a pipe and help us raise £150,000 towards to cost of restoring the chapel organ in the seminary. Built in 1838 for the opening of Oscott College, the beautiful organ has supported the liturgical life of the Seminary for over 180 years and has been central to the daily worship of the college community during Mass. Purchased by Birmingham Industrialist, John Hardman, as a gift to the seminary it was built by the London firm G&S Parsons. The beautiful and unusual case covering is attributed to the Gothic architect A.W. Pugin, whose legacy of work at the seminary is optimised in the stunning design of the chapel.
The organ is much-loved by those who use it but is in desperate need of restoration to ensure it continues to delight all who worship in the chapel for generations to come.
There are 1466 pipes to sponsor, ranging in price from £30 upwards. J.W Walker and Sons has been commissioned to restore the Organ with works beginning July 2026 - with a hopeful completion in time for Christmas.
You will be able to sponsor one pipe, a number of pipes or a complete “rank” (or row) of pipes – the choice is yours.
Please note that any additional funds raised during the appeal will be put in reserve for the routine maintenance and upkeep of the organ to ensure that it remains in top condition for generations to come.
If you would like to make a general donation to our college, or to support another of our funds, please visit our donation page.
For each pipe you sponsor you will receive a certificate in recognition of your sponsorship, your name recorded in the Oscotian magazine. For donations of £100 or more you will also recieve two tickets to a future organ recital celebrating the completion of the organ works . Donations over £500 will be commemorated on a plaque displayed in the chapel.
